US steel import permit applications for January totalled 2.36 million net tons, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). This figure represents a 6% decrease from the 2.52m permit tons recorded in December and a 12.7% increase from December’s final import total of 2.09m nt.
Import permit tonnage for finished steel in January was 1.78m nt, up 9.5% from the final imports total of 1.62m nt in December.
