Cold rolled coil and hot dipped galvanized prices are seen increasing as some major European producers are pushing up their asking prices for September, Kallanish learns from market sources.

“In transactions coils are gaining €10/tonne ($11.1/t). We have noticed a movement upstream also due to some speeding up of apparent demand. With the current high iron ore prices, coil price increases are inevitable for September,” a producer comments.

In Southern Europe some producers are asking between €560-570/t base ex-works for both CRC and HDG. In transactions CRC is seen reaching €540/t base ex-works in September with HDG at €550/t base ex-works. Hot rolled coil is also seen gaining €20/t in Southern Europe compared to July levels as prices are seen rising to €460-470/t base ex-works. Some HRC producers are already asking €480/t base ex-works in Southern European countries, Kallanish hears.

Last week prices have remained mostly stable in Southern European countries at €440-460/t base ex-works for HRC and €520-540/t base ex-works for CRC and HDG, sources suggest.
