EU scrap exports rise in first-half 2017
EU member countries exported 10 million tonnes of scrap in the first half of 2017, an increase of 16% year-on-year, Kallanish learns from German recycling federation BVSE.
It attributes the increase mainly to demand from Turkey, which lifted its intake from EU countries by 19.5% to nearly 6mt, giving the country a share of 60% of all EU exports. The federation warns that the EU’s dependence on Turkey as a customer is stronger than ever before.
