Scarce funding hinders Indonesian nickel smelter construction
The construction of downstream smelters to add value to the Indonesian mining industry has encountered several problems, the first of which is a shortage of funds.
Ridwan Djamaluddin, director general of minerals and coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), says there are 12 smelter companies currently experiencing funding constraints. Eight of the 12 are nickel smelters, Kallanish notes.
