Samancor to reduce production, consult over job cuts
Samancor Chrome plans to decrease chrome ore and ferrochrome production -29% and -20% respectively on-year in 2020 due to continued deterioration in market conditions. These cuts could deepen significantly, should market conditions not improve, the South African firm tells Kallanish.
Weak market conditions, persistent depressed ferrochrome and chrome ore prices, and increasing power tariffs from South African electricity provider Eskom are behind the move.
