Sales rebound, higher prices return USSK to profit
US Steel Kosice (USSK)’s sales soared to 1.17 million net tons in the second quarter from only 610,000nt a year earlier. This was also up from 1.04mnt in Q1. Raw steel production also almost doubled to 1.28mnt, with capacity utilisation up to 103% from 52% a year earlier, Kallanish notes.
Average sales price rose 43% on-year in Q2 to $905/net ton, while Ebit turned to positive $207 million from negative $26m a year earlier.
