RHI Magnesita to supply thyssenkrupp electric smelter refractories
RHI Magnesita will supply refractory linings for the two open bath furnaces (OBF) being installed by SMS at thyssenkrupp’s Duisburg site, for its transition to 2.3 million tonnes/year of low-emission steelmaking.
The transition project has received €2 billion ($2.2 billion) of funding from the German government. SMS was contracted in 2023 to supply a direct reduced iron plant, as well as the OBFs.
