Qatar growth lifts Mid-East DRI production
Direct reduced iron production in the four Middle Eastern countries covered by worldsteel’s monthly report inched up 1% on-year in May to 3.36 million tonnes, Kallanish notes.
The region’s largest producer, Iran, is estimated to have increased output 5.8% in May to 2.48mt, when crude steel output is estimated to have risen 3.8% to 2.24mt. This took January-May DRI output up 15% on-year to 11.78mt.
