Mid-East steel output rises in May amid profitability
Crude steel production in the four Middle Eastern countries covered by worldsteel’s monthly report rose 16.8% on-year and 3% on-month in May to 3.67 million tonnes. This took five-month output up 8.1% on-year to 17.75mt.
World steel prices have hit records in recent months despite increased production. Construction projects ramping up have increased steel demand in the Middle East and North Africa, which has triggered production growth, Kallanish notes.
