Iron ore shipments from Port Hedland in Western Australia rose year-on-year and month-on-month in November, underpinned by higher shipments to China, Kallanish notes. 

According to Pilbara Ports Authority data, the port shipped 48.76 million tonnes of iron ore in November, rising 7% from 45.58mt in October and 8.5% from 44.94mt a year ago.  

The port's iron ore shipments to China, the largest export market, stood at 39.96mt, rising 1.71% m-o-m and 5.21% y-o-y. 

Meanwhile, the port exported 5.08mt of iron ore to South Korea in November, surging 67.11% m-o-m and 39.18% y-o-y.

As for Japan, iron ore shipments from the port totalled 1.45mt, up 6.62% m-o-m but down 12.12% y-o-y.

Port Hedland, the dominant iron ore export hub in Western Australia, handles iron ore shipments for Australian major miners including BHP, Fortescue Metals and Roy Hill.
