Italian steel plant and equipment maker Danieli is to supply Acciaierie di Verona with a new two-strand wire rod mill along with a new six-strand billet caster, Kallanish learns from Danieli. Verona is part of the steel wire rod producer Pittini Group.

“The purpose of the Pittini Group investment is to increase its wire rod production of 700,000 tonnes/year. The mill is characterised by an H-V rougher feeding two independent rolling lines made of cantilever roll stands, featuring quick roll change, and temperature control along the mill and downstream. High-speed shears installed downstream the high-speed twin-module sizing blocks will perform wire rod head and tail cropping,” Danieli explains in a note.

The six strand caster will produce 150-160mm square billets, will feature in-line quality control, billet marking and tracking thanks to so-called Q3 integrated automation. A Q3 intelligence system will be used for integrated data collection from the whole plant, analysis, web reporting with key performance indicators and with statistical tools to support decision making, Daniel says.

Start-up for the new plant is expected by mid-2018.
