Philippines, US absence slashes Indian billet exports
Indian semi-finished product exports, the majority of which were billet, fell -19% on-year in January to 196,222 tonnes, according to Indian commerce ministry data monitored by Kallanish. Their average value, however, was $462/tonne versus $482/t in January 2018.
The decline came despite a 31% increase in intake from Nepal to 98,050t and Sri Lanka taking in 50,728t versus zero a year earlier. Italy also took in 22,591t versus 546t.
