Philippines shutters induction furnace steelmaker

The Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has ordered Wan Chiong Steel to stop operations. The induction furnace steelmaker was allegedly producing rebar that did not meet Philippine standards, Kallanish notes. According to local media, the company had been warned about its operations in mid-2018, but was found to still be producing substandard rebar as of last week, when it was inspected.
