Outokumpu orders biogas-fuelled ships to cut emissions
Outokumpu has agreed with long-term transport partner shipping company Langh Ship to replace three cargo vessels with new ships that can run on liquefied biogas to cut CO2 emissions.
The ships transport coils from Outokumpu’s mill in Tornio, Finland to its European hub in Terneuzen, the Netherlands, and return back to Tornio loaded with recycled steel, Outokumpu’s main raw material. The first new ship will be taken into use in 2023.
