Northern European rod hits €1,000, further increases expected
Northern European wire rod prices exploded in the first week of March amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and market participants expect yet more hikes.
“Prices are skyrocketing, with an increase of more than €100-120/tonne ($109-130) since 24 February due to the war [in Ukraine],” a buyer from the Netherlands tells Kallanish. “Nobody expects to receive the volume of wire rod they ordered due to the blocked sea ports in Ukraine.”
