Nippon Steel starts up EAF at Hirohata
Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel has seen the first commercial operation of its new electric arc furnace at Hirohata Works. The EAF will be used to produce high-grade electrical steel sheets.
This is the first Consteel EAF to be constructed in Japan, supplied by Italian metals industry technology company Tenova. The designed capacity of this EAF is around 720,000 tonnes/year, Kallanish notes.
