Net-zero steel needs demand creation, 100mt capacity: IEA
Over 100 million tonnes/year of near-zero emission ironmaking production is required by 2030 to ensure the steel industry is on course for net zero emissions by 2050, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
The pipeline for primary near-zero emission projects has increased to 13m t/y, and for near-zero emission capable plants to 58mt, indicating there is still a gap of nearly 50m t/y that needs to be filled.
