Middle Eastern suppliers boost semis exports to China
Middle Eastern countries increased their semi-finished steel exports to China significantly in the first quarter, show Global Trade Tracker data.
Iran was the largest supplier with 285,683 tonnes in the quarter compared to zero in Q1 2019. In March alone China imported 195,396t of semis from Iran. The Asian giant has bought from Iran in consecutive months since September 2019, with the exception of November. In Q4 2019 it sourced 92,557t of semis from Iran.
