Mid-East DRI output growth outpaces steel in March

Direct reduced iron production in the four Middle Eastern countries covered by worldsteel’s monthly report grew 10% on-year in March to 3.07 million tonnes, Kallanish notes. The region’s largest producer, Iran, is estimated to have increased DRI output 8.8% in March to 2.3mt, taking first-quarter output up 5.9% on-year to 6.94mt.
