Middle East scrap exports, imports slump in 2015
The Middle East exported -25% less scrap on-year in 2015 at 1.5 million tonnes, while imports of the steelmaking feedstock fell -42% to 700,000t, according to a worldsteel report published last week.
African scrap exports fell -13% in 2015 to 2mt, while imports fell -54% to 1.6mt. The two regions’ role thus remained small in global scrap trade in 2015, which amounted to 83mt.
