Mid-East imports decline despite some countries' multi-year highs
Imports of flat products into the Middle East declined -10% on-year in 2018 to 9.65 million tonnes, according to newly-published worldsteel data. This represented the third consecutive year of decline.
Notably, Qatar’s flats imports hit a multi-year high of 265,000t in 2018, up 49% on-year, while Oman’s were up 5% to a multi-year high of 445,000t and Kuwait’s rose 41% to a multi-year high of 390,000t.
