GCC DRI output slows despite steel growth
Direct reduced iron production in the four Middle Eastern countries covered by worldsteel’s monthly report grew 8% on-year in June to 3.31 million tonnes, Kallanish notes.
The region’s largest producer, Iran, is estimated to have increased output 16.3% in June to 2.395mt, when crude steel output is estimated to have risen 6.1% to 2.17mt. This took January-June DRI output up 15.2% on-year to 14.18mt.
