Mid-East DRI output remains depressed in May
Direct reduced iron production in the four Middle Eastern countries covered by worldsteel’s monthly report fell -8% on-year in May to 3.21 million tonnes. It did not rebound significantly either from April’s 3.14mt, Kallanish notes.
The fall came despite the region’s largest producer, Iran, being estimated to have grown output 7.6% on-year in May to 2.7mt. January-May DRI output rose an estimated 3.5% on-year to 12.07mt.
