Metinvest's slab caster launch could balance export market
Ukrainian vertically-integrated steelmaker Metinvest has commissioned the new 2.5 million tonnes/year continuous slab caster at its Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel works.
Market sources recently told Kallanish that Metinvest is set to reduce pig iron exports, once the caster is commissioned, and will focus on slab which is in short supply. This will potentially act as a balancing force in an oversupplied pig iron market.
