Merafe positions to feed 3.5% global stainless growth
South African ferrochrome producer Merafe Resources expects global stainless steel production to grow 3.5% on-year in 2017 to 46.79 million tonnes. This will be driven by China and India, as well as South Africa. It will represent a slowdown on the 8.8% growth seen in 2016, however.
The output increase will boost demand for charge chrome (charge Cr) by 3.8% on-year to 8.39mt and demand for high-carbon ferrochrome (HC FeCr) by 4.2% to 3.58mt. However, overall fer…
