Merafe ferrochrome production declines in 2019
Merafe's attributable ferrochrome production from its South Africa-based joint venture with Glencore fell -6% on-year in the fourth quarter of 2019 to 105,000 tonnes.
Full-year 2019 output thus fell -9% on-year to 371,000t. The drop was the result of increased electricity curtailments from Eskom, community unrests as well as production cutbacks in response to market conditions during Q4, Merafe says. Capacity utilisation last year was at 77%.
