MENA strengthens position as main global DRI-producing region
The Middle East and North Africa remained the world’s largest direct reduced iron producing region by far in 2016, with output of 34.19 million tonnes, up 6% on the previous year, according to Midrex. It thus produced 47% of the world’s DRI versus 44% in 2015.
Iran accounted for 47% of DRI production in MENA last year, up from 45% in 2015. Its DRI output rose 10% to 16.01mt. Saudi Arabia came next with a 2% growth in DRI production to 5.89mt. United …
