MENA’s January output declines sequentially, grows versus 2021
The subdued United Arab Emirates market dragged the combined crude steel output of Middle Eastern countries down 1.4% on-month in January to 3.88 million tonnes, according to the latest worldsteel data. Qatar and Iran saw slight growth and Saudi Arabia was flat on-month, Kallanish notes.
A notable omission from worldsteel statistics is non-member Oman, whose main integrated steelmaker Jindal Shadeed has a 2.4m t/year capacity.
