Mechel's coking coal sales slump on reduced exports
Mechel’s external sales of coking coal concentrate dropped -8% on-quarter in the first quarter to 1.21 million tonnes. The decline came as Mechel exported all-available coal reserves in Q4 2016 to Asia-Pacific to capitalise on those markets’ profitability. Moreover, the share of steam coal was increased at Neryungrinsky at the expense of coking coal.
