Mechel re-routes coal to Japan as sales decline

Mechel saw merchant coking coal concentrate sales fall -21% on-quarter in the first quarter of 2018 to 887,000 tonnes, while PCI shipments dropped -32% to 313,000t. This resulted from a rail wagon shortage in the Kemerovo Region and infrastructure limitations that hampered cargo transport to ports in Russia’s Far East. Coke sales declined -5% to 168,000t.
