Mechel ramps up ferrosilicon production following furnace upgrade

Russian miner and steelmaker Mechel is increasing ferrosilicon production with the launch of an upgraded furnace at its Bratsk ferroalloy plant, the company says. The upgrade has increased the capacity of the furnace at the ferroalloy smelter from 25MVA to 33MVA. This will increase the furnace’s output by 40%, Kallanish notes.
