AISI: March import permits rise significantly
US steel import permits appear to have surged in March relative to February, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Citing data from the US Department of Commerce, AISI says March permit applications totalled 2.969 million short tons. That is up 30% from February’s final import tally of 2.276m st.
Total and finished import figures for the first three months of the year, however, are both down -33% from last year.
