Manufacturing employment in the US remains mostly flat
Employment in the US manufacturing industry remained mostly flat in May, as shift volumes increased by just 0.1% above April’s levels after falling by 0.4% that month.
This stagnation in manufacturing employment contrasts with the trajectory for many other industries, which experienced monthly increases in labour volumes during May. These include the healthcare, public sector, retail/hospitality, and services/distribution industries.
