Chinas manufacturing contracts further
China’s manufacturing sector has remained in the doldrums this month despite a slight improvement in new orders and output, according to the HSBC China manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI). The preliminary flash reading for January came in at 49.8, up from 49.6 in December but still below the 50 watershed which is the boundary between expansion and contraction.
