Malaysia slaps duties on CRC
Malaysia has decided to impose anti-dumping duties on imports of certain non-alloy cold rolled coils from China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. It also found however that Posco was not dumping and it is therefore excluded from paying the duties, Kallanish notes.
The duties cover HS codes 720915, 720916.90, 720917.90 and 720918.99. This covers iron and non-alloy steel with width over 1,300mm. It excludes tin mill black plate, automotive products and finwall for transformers.
Malaysia imported over 305,000 tonnes of products under these HS codes in the first nine months of 2019. Imports from China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam accounted for over 85% of the total. Imports from China over January-September were down -15.8% y-o-y at over 48,000t, while imports from Japan were down -11.9% to just over 105,000t. Imports from Vietnam jumped 18.7% to over 48,000t, and from Korea they increased 30.4% to over 58,000t.
