Major Pakistani steelmakers book profit amid price hikes
Major Pakistani steel mills booked profit in the December quarter, mainly on the back of consecutive price hikes during the quarter.
Mills, for example, hiked rebar offers by around PKR 12,000-15,000/tonne ($68-86) between the beginning and the end of the quarter, Kallanish notes. Producers, however, cited costlier feedstock and rising electricity rates as the major reasons for the price hikes.
