Depleted Rhine revives calls for Betuwe train line
thyssenkrupp Steel has cut 10-15% of pig iron output as a result of transport bottlenecks due to low Rhine water levels, Kallanish learns from the company upon request.
tk Steel’s pig iron production also feeds the long product mill of ArcelorMittal, one step further down in the supply chain, although the degree of production cutback there was not given. Both companies recently declared force majeure to their customers (see Kallanish passim).
