Lockdown slashes Indian scrap imports
Indian imports of ferrous scrap under HS code 7204 fell for a third consecutive month, plummeting -67% on-year in April to only 234,460 tonnes, Kallanish learns from Indian commerce ministry provisional data. Most Indian steelmakers cut production significantly that month after India imposed a nationwide Covid-19 lockdown in late March.
The average value of imported obsolete scrap under HS code 720449 was $317/tonne in April versus $343/t a year earlier.…
