Liberty expands Rotherham mill, advances Newport EAF plan
Liberty Steel plans to increase production at its Rotherham mill to over 1 million tonnes/year with investments to expand product mix and increase rolling mill productivity.
UK rebar demand is around 1.2m t/y, half of which is met by imports, despite there being a surplus of scrap in the country that could be used as electric arc furnace feedstock. Further growth in construction is expected from infrastructure projects such as HS2.
