Liberty House has announced a new senior management structure for its enlarged UK steel division, the multi-national group tells Kallanish. The key appointment is that of industry heavyweight Jon Bolton to lead the charge.

Bolton has been appointed chief executive for the UK steel division, now taking responsibility for all the group’s expanded and restructured steel operations. Bolton, formerly Liberty’s director of UK steel development, has held senior management positions in the UK sector with Corus and Tata Steel and is the current chair of the industry association UK Steel.

Liberty now has three steel operations in the UK – rolled products, speciality steels and pipes – each with its own chief executive. Peter Hogg, formerly chief operating officer at Liberty Speciality Steels, now takes on the chief executive role at that division. V B. Garg is chief executive for rolled products including the sites in Newport, Tredegar, Dalzell, Clydebridge and Scunthorpe. James Annal was recently appointed as chief executive of the pipes division, centred on the recently-acquired Hartlepool LSAW mills.

Bolton’s third major role is as joint chair of the UK Steel Council along with the Secretary of State for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy, advising government and providing strategic leadership to the sector.
