Kumba increases first-quarter production, exports flat
South African iron ore miner Kumba, a subsidiary of Anglo American, saw iron ore production increase 13.2% on-year in the first quarter to 9.4 million tonnes due to improved operational performance at Kolomela mine. Versus Q4, however, output inched down 6%.
Despite output growth, exports, which account for 100% of sales, stayed flat at 9.5mt versus Q1 2022 but soared 38% on-quarter, Kallanish notes.
