Korean steel demand and imports to fall
Korea will see shipbuilding and construction drag down steel demand in 2017, pushing down its import volumes and production as a result, according to the Posco Research Institute (Posri). Korean GDP growth fell in the December quarter despite a slight improvement over 2016 as a whole, Kallanish notes.
Posri expects 2017 nominal steel consumption to fall -2.8% to 55.6 million tonnes, while production will fall -0.7% to 73.8mt, according to figures quoted in Posco…
