Kardemir states that it has won the monoblock railway wheel tender opened by TCDD - General Directorate of Turkish State Railways.

In a statement from Kardemir, it says Kardemir’s product development efforts continue in order to decrease Turkish steel imports.

“Our company won the tender for the monoblock railway wheels that TCDD held. With this sale we have sold approximately 1,600 monoblock railway wheels and contributed to our national wealth to remain within the country. With our product development studies, we aim to provide foreign currency inflow to our country by meeting the needs of our domestic and international markets," says Kardemir.

Kardemir supplied approximately 30,000 tonnes of rails to TCDD recently and continues to contribute to domestic rail transportation. With this, Turkey’s need for railway wheels, which is completely met by imports, has started to be met with domestic resources and national production, Kallanish notes.
