Japan’s steel orders drop in May
Orders of Japanese ordinary steel products in May dropped on the prior month, but remained slightly higher than a year earlier, according to the monthly report released by the Japan Iron & Steel Association (JISF) on 16 July.
In May alone, orders decreased 7.3% month-on-month but increased 2% year-on-year to 4.742 million tonnes, Kallanish notes. Within this, domestic orders fell more slowly than exports on a m-o-m basis, and rose slower y-o-y.
