Japanese steel trade weakens in April
In April this year, both imports and exports of Japanese iron and steel products fell due to stagnant domestic demand and wide-ranging lockdowns in China, according to data from the Japan Iron & Steel Federation (JISF).
Monthly imports declined 15.2% month-on-month and 23.5% year-on-year to 547,792 tonnes, Kallanish notes. The April figure took year-to-date volumes to 2.42 million t, which fell 6% from a year earlier.
