Japanese steel trade rebounds in May
Both Japanese iron and steel exports and imports rebounded in May, partly thanks to a logistics recovery from pandemic lockdowns in Shanghai and other cities in China, Kallanish observes.
May exports rose 10.6% month-on-month and 8.6% year-on-year to 3.02 million tonnes, according to data released by the Japan Iron & Steel Federation (JISF). Year-to-date volumes were thus boosted to 13.86mt; however, they only inched up by 0.1% from the same period last year.
