Japanese steel exports rise in May, imports fall
Japan’s iron and steel exports rose year-on-year in May for the first time in 13 months, while imports fell on-month and on-year, Kallanish notes from data released by the Japan Iron & Steel Federation (JISF).
Total exports including pig iron and steel products rose 1.5% month-on-month and 11.2% year-on-year to 2.78 million tonnes in May. Wire rod and cold-rolled sheet saw the biggest y-o-y increases of 153% and 144.6% respectively.
