Japanese steel consumption thrives in 2021
Supported by most downstream industries other than shipbuilding and marine equipment, Japan’s domestic steel consumption stabilised in December and increased over the whole year, Kallanish learns from the Japan Iron & Steel Federation (JISF).
Monthly consumption rose 8% from November but declined 0.97% year-on-year to 4.28 million tonnes, JISF data shows. This boosted annual domestic consumption to 50.57mt, up 11.6% from one year earlier.
