Japanese iron ore shipping firm goes bankrupt
Japan’s Daiichi Chuo Kisen Kaisha (DCKK) has filed for bankruptcy protection along with its subsidiary Star Bulk Carrier. It is the country’s fifth largest shipper by revenues and is focussed on iron ore and coal shipments in Asia, Kallanish notes.
The company had suffered losses for four consecutive years and had liabilities of JPY 119.6 billion ($1 billion). Star Bulk had additional liabilities of JPY 56.8 billion. DCKK blamed the slowdown in China…
