Japanese auto industry weakens in August

Japanese automotive production and sales dipped in August on a month-on-month basis as the industry was facing pressure from a slowdown in the economy. Exports meanwhile remained higher than a year ago thanks to the weaker yen, Kallanish notes. Monthly vehicle production amounted to 584,291 units, down 16.5% m-o-m but up 21.6% year-on-year.
